02. Transformation of Positive, Comparative and Superlative Degrees:

D. Change into Positive Degree.

3. The Bhupen Hazarika Xetu at Dhola Sadiya is the longest bridge in India.

E. Change into comparative degree:

1. This is the best book on the subject.

F. Change into superlative degree.

1. No other boxer is as great as Mary Com.

Mary Com is the greatest of all boxers.

2. No other boy is as intelligent as Raju.

Raju is the most intelligent boy. 



03. Transformation of Simple, Complex and Compound Sentences:

G. Change into a simple sentence.

1. I know where he was born.

I know his birth place. 

Or

I know the place of his birth.

2. He hoped that he would win the prize.

He hoped to win the prize.

3. He desired that I should go there.

He desired me to go there.

4. He is so lazy that he can't shine in life.

H. Change into a complex sentence.

1. He came in the evening.

He came when it was evening.

2. I know his name.

3. We heard of her failure.

We heard that he had failed.

5. On seeing the lion, he ran away.

As he saw the lion, he ran away. Or

When he saw the lion he ran away.

6. He worked hard to pass the examination.

He worked hard so that he might pass the examination.

7. Having completed her project here, she returned to her native country.

8. This fact is too evident to require any proof. (Use 'so...that' instead of 'too...to')

I. Change into compound sentences.

1. You must work hard to succeed.

Work hard and you will succeed.

2. Having done his work he left the place.

3. Unless you work hard you will fail.

Work hard or you will fail.

4. The enemy fled as soon as they saw us.

The enemy saw us and at once fled.

5. Being ill, he couldn't attend school.

6. If you do not study hard, you will fail.

04. Transformation of Exclamatory and Assertive Sentences:

J. Change into an exclamatory sentence.

1. Your hair is very lovely.

How lovely your hair is!

2. He leads a most unhappy life.

What an unhappy life he leads!


K. Change into assertive.

1. Is it not a foolish idea?

It is a foolish idea.

2. Why waste time in this fruitless occupation?

You should not waste time in this fruitless occupation.

3. Is he not a great fool?

He is a great fool.

4. Who does not wish to be happy?

Everyone wishes to be happy.

5. When can their glory fade?

5. Tag Questions:

1. Kindly do me a favour

Kindly do me a favour, will you? or won't you?

2. Interchange of Parts of Speech

There is a slight difference between the two shades. (Rewrite the sentence by using the adjective form of 'difference')

The two shades are slightly different.

2. Positive, Comparative and Superlative Degrees with 'Very Few'

Comparative: Gold is more precious than most other metals.

Superlative: Gold is one of the most precious metals.

2. Positive: Very few subjects are so easy as this.

Comparative: This is easier than most other subjects.

Superlative: This is one of the easiest subjects.

3. Positive: Very few cities in our country are as big as Mumbai.

Comparative: Mumbai is bigger than most other cities in our country.

Superlative: Mumbai is one of the biggest cities in our country.

4. Positive: Very few Assamese saints were as famous as Sankardeva.

Comparative: Sankardeva was more famous than most other Assamese saints.

Superlative: Sankardeva was one of the most famous Assamese saints.

5. Positive: Very few countries are as great as India.

Comparative: India is greater than most other cities.

Superlative: India is one of the greatest countries.


3. Use of 'So .... that' instead of 'too .... to')

1. This fact is too evident to require any proof. (Use 'so ... that' instead of 'too ... to')

4. Interchange of Parts of Speech
